As I write I am bedridden with a classic lupus 'flare'. Here for 3 days now, or is it 4. Headache, fatigue, shaking hands, pain, depression. The usual.
I've been getting worse over the last 3 weeks, and I've had a few days off sick already.

This morning I emailed the "boss" (I'm a contractor actually) to say I wouldnt be in today (2nd day). Email reply was: "We need to discuss the terms of your contract."

Oh yes here we go again.

Ok so I call him up, and politely express my dissapointment at his disability discrimination (etc, etc), that I'm not in any condition to discuss anything with him, except that I would like an apology.

Him: "Umm, no. At least I want to give you an apology face to face".

Me: "You cant apologise over the phone? But you've offended me via email, how come you cant even apologise via email?".

Him: "I like to do these things face to face".

Methinks: Yeah, right. Sure pal. Sounds like a condition to your apology. We'll I guess I've just extinguished my only obligation to resolve the matter myself before dragging him off the the Equal Opportunity Commission. My formal complaint will be emailed overnight. Of course the justice is only token - the EOC does not award damages and the financial penalties are very light ($250-$2500) compare with what this will cost me.

I spent the rest of this afternoon looking for my next contract - disability discrimination is usually always fatal to a contract. I rang up an agent at 530pm and he'll be calling me tomorrow morning for me to decide which position I'd like like. At the moment my skills are currently in high demand. So I dont have to put up with people like this (at the moment, that is).

But I really despise these cowardly scum who take my illness into account in making decisions about "our contract" . Its bad enough my having this condition. I dont need these people to make my life hell. Its already hell.

Nuff said for now. I'll keep you all posted.

i don't know if i would call mine decrimination, mine is they just don,t listen!

yesterday went to dermotolgist tried to explain to him i get flare up from a process i do at work,no ,would not listen though i was saying work caused my lupus to start,so i am trying to tel him it causes flares and i did not get through to him, so i ask can he write a letter saying that any increased amount of uv light can cause problems with with lupus!

today i go to work,tell them what the dermo said and i asked if there is another job somewhere else more better for me, and again he would not listen and started going on about how the machine can have a few mods and all is good( there mods are pretty bodgie) but he won't listen that i can't run the uv.

i think i will have this battle for a while

Shane,

My uncle has a print shop with all the original printers in it from waaay back when he first opened up like 40 years ago. It's all the old timey equipment. Needless to say, he doesn't get very much business but it makes him happy.

As a teacher, I am fearful of mentioning my Lupus, though I know that morally and practically, I must mention it. I have extensive experience, excellent credentials and my kid's state scores are marvelous (95% on average, passing. RARE!) yet it is SO difficult to land a job. This is in Houston, where they are begging for teachers. Sigh......

Well, the inevitable happened.

The contract was terminated a few days after my post above. I landed a new contract 10 days later. The issue is headed for a fight in the Equal Opportunity Tribunal.

They will probably settle out of court.

I dont think I'd let a Dermatologist treat my Lupus. You should be seeing an immunologist. Even a plain old GP would be a better choice than a person who specialises in an area that is not related to the base cause of the illness.

And find one that already understands Lupus. If they dont listen, dont waste any more time with them - they're idiots - find another one. If you dont take control of the management of your own condition, you will suffer at the hands of ignorance and incompetence.

I'm a Consulting IT Engineer. I contract via 3rd parties to fix or build computer software. Contracts can last from 6 weeks to several years. Just depends.
