And why does the nice lady on the P.A. system at the airport calmly announce that you should "Get on the Plane"? Shouldn't you get IN the plane?

Ok, I confess, the airplane line is from one of my favorite comedians, George Carlin. His answer to "Get on the Plane", was-To heck with that! Evel Knievel can get on the plane! I'm getting IN it!
