Hi Oluwa,
Life is terribly busy! I can't seem to stay caught up on grading! I have one stupid assistant principal who doesn't understand what the doc meant in his note by "limited ambulatory activities". He reluctantly excused me from cafeteria duty, but gave me the duty of "patrolling" the second floor. I ignored him, and I just sit outside of my classroom on my rollator.
I have another even more stupid assistant principal who decided not to issue books to the students for the first six weeks. We've all had to teach from class sets. Could you imagine trying to learn a difficult foreign language like Latin without having a book to take home to study from and to do homework?
It has been a very rough start to the year.
My knee is still bad - getting up from a sitting position is a very tricky business. All the orthopedic surgeon ever says is to keep my weigh off of it - so, I'm still creeping around. I swear, I must have something autoimmune going on. After a long hard day, my cheeks flare up to be bright pink and rashy.
This weekend, we go to Houston to see the movement specialist again. I'll finally get to see the results of all the tests that they did last Spring. I'll let you know what I find out.
How are you feeling? Feeling better, I hope! I worry about a lot of my on-line friends as we watch the bad things that are happening to the economy. We feel lucky that most of our family has jobs that aren't being too badly affected and that we have good insurance through my hubby's government job. I know that a lot of the folks that I'm in touch with aren't so lucky, so I worry until we get all of this straightened out.
Take care of yourself,
Marla |

Hi, Marla. It's nice to see you posting. I wish you had an employer who had a clue - expecting you to 'patrol' the halls is pretty crazy. I admire you for continuing to teach, despite your health problems. Good teachers are 'scarce as hen's teeth' as my Dad used to say. And to teach something as difficult as Latin - to teenagers no less - you must be have the patience of a saint!
I hope you get good information (and maybe some good news) from the movement specialist. How's the 'flare' today, by the way? Still pink and rashy? Always something, eh?

Hi all,
I'm currently sitting in a lovely Houston motel room. It has been a rough week at work for both of us, so my sweetie and I are really enjoying the down time. We're waiting for my cousin to call, so that we can have lunch with him. My cousin's restaurant is currently closed due to damage from Ike. We are seeing a lot of the aftermath of the storm around here - lots of trees down, tarps on damaged roofs, and boarded-up windows, even on the skyscrapers. The economy problems seem to be affecting the folks in this city more than we're being affected in San Antonio.
I'll see the docs tomorrow. I can't wait to talk to them. It is interesting; the rash on my cheeks goes down a lot when I'm relaxed, so it's not bad at all this weekend. The knees and the hips are still difficult to move, though. The four hour car ride was a bit hard on me, too.
I'll update this after I see Dr. Jancovick tomorrow!

Hi you, Marla...
What is a rollator?
Sounds like your cheeks have the malar. Mine get red when stressed, frazzled, road trips like you just went on...in front of the PC too long. Seems worse with my new my monitor, well it is a more of a HDTV than a monitor. The new thingies.
We are driving to the UP for a holiday in 10 days. Decided that way because of our animals. Old, 13 years. Should be nor more than 18 -20 hours. I hope my Lupus is up to it. I am.
Dr. Jancovick... I hope will be able to provide you with answers, care for your hip pain..finally the results from your tests too. Such a wait.
Can they do keyhole surgery on your knee or is it too far for that type of surgery?
Rest up from your drive...and do tell us what the doctor says when you can. In this case no news for you would not be good news, eh? You need answers.
Enjoy the night...
Hugs.
Love,
Oluwa |
