What is happening?

Hi everyone,

Well, I do not know if this has to do w/my Lupus but, 1st I got an allergic reaction 3 weeks ago that swelled my eyes then 2 weeks ago, a worse reaction that swelled my eyes shut. I went on allergy meds and got Pred/creme for my eyes. Eyes went down then got fever and swollen glands. Now, fever has subsided but all my glands are swollen and now I have a sore throat and laryngitis. I can't get a word out....I am sure there are a few men I know that would call that a blessing but, geez, is this part of Lupus or has the Sh*t fairy just set up home at my house?

Gosh, I seem ok for a few days and then I get slammed w/something else. Is this what Lupus is all about? I really do not know....or am I just unlucky and being a cry baby. I am fiercely tired.

I am going to read some more about other symptoms on this site, but if this sounds like a typical pattern, then how do I get out of it. I have been careful during my classes to wear sunscreen and a hat to protect myself from fluorescent lights but I can't get healthy.

What was the allergic reaction to? Do you know? Are you on allergy shots? I was and was reacting big time; had to stop and go on Allegra 180 and Singulair.

Most of us get a sore throat before a cold or flu hits; it's pretty typical. Laryngitis, mmm, that's a tough one. I was told it was due to allergies; but I still get it at different times. It's bizarre; and I don't know why. It comes and goes.

Some going into remission for a time and some of us have frequent flares. It seemed the first year it was coping with Lupus, 2nd year was coping with Lupus and Fibromyalgia. Now I am attempting to cope with Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Sjogren's, Diabetes, Blood Presssure issues, and Blepharitis due to Sjogrens. Everyone is different and everyone has different reactions, etc. I have to remind myself that God doesn't give you more than you can handle; though it is hard at times.

Hang in there; life is never boring with Lupus. Shocked

What are you taking? Prednisone permanently or Plaquenil? I hope you feel better soon and keep us updated.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I take singulair and zyrtec and many years ago had allergy shots. I also reacted, but was told that was impossible. I would end up in the car feeling like my brain shut down and needed immediate sleep.

I have been to an allergists since, who gave me the scratch test and I showed no signs of allergies to anything. Fortunately, I see an immunologist who recognized that I do have allergies but they do not show in a scratch test. I would have thought the allergist would have figured that out since I was rushed to the hospital when I the hives moved from the outside of my body to my throat.....long story.

So, I seem to be in a sick cycle, laryngitis' and I think a touch of bronchitis. I'll save the the gruesome details on that cough. I will give it a few more days and then call my specialist.

I am not taking any drugs for my Lupus because my doc thought I was going into remission due to a span of prednisone that I was taking. I do not think he wants to put me back on pred. because of the depression it seems to bring on in me. The Plaquil (spelling?) has not been mentioned by my doc. I think he is hoping that I can go back into remission without drugs.
