Hi Oluwa and Everyone!
Well, I made an emergency appointment with my G.P. after school today regarding my menstrual problem. It is unusual to see black blood on the first day of your period (you would normally only possibly see it near the end of your period) and especially at my age (seventeen years and six months). My G.P. has prescribed Doxitab (Doxycycline) and Be-Metrazole (Metronidazole) for me because he thinks that I have an infection, among other possible things. Obviously, he can only examine me properly when my period ends, so I have to go back and see him then. He also wants to take a look at my urine and kidneys then.
He also spoke to one of my Neurologists and when he's sorted out my menstrual problem, he is going to prescribe something else for prophylaxis of migraines. I have stopped the Pur-Bloka completely and am still struggling to get my chest back to 'normal'. It's had a TERRIBLE effect on my chest and I was on the lowest dose possible for only two days!
Keep well! |

More "doctoring!" Oh, ILoveHistory, I sure wish you could be 'doctor-free' for a while. But, if they have answers for you and can give you some relief of these symptoms. it'll be worth it, right? We are with you in thought, Dear Girl. Keep us posted on the results. (I'm glad you quit the beta blocker....that chest problems sounded dreadful.)

Ditto what Mnjodette said. Once again, I hope that you can finally find treatments that actually give you relief from symptoms (and not cause new ones) so that you can have some good days.
Sending you warm, tight cyber hugs.
Peace and Blessings

Hi Saysusie and Mjodette!
Thank you SO very much for your kind words, concern, advice, support and love! I really do appreciate it SO very much! Honestly, more than I could ever say in words!
Well, after starting the antibiotic and anti-fungal last night, I am delighted to report that my period has gone back to its original red colour and the horrible chemical smell is gone!
Keep well! |

Thank you so much for this post....I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday morning...now I have something else to bring up to her. I have mentioned to her before about old blood. She never seemed very concerned about it...as a matter of fact told me it was quite normal.
Well It's not normal...and she will have to address it. I've had my whole period with old blood. It's time she did something.
If it wasn't for your post here, I would have gone on thinking everything was just fine. Thanks again. _________________ Oh look ... a cookie |

Hi Sits_in_the_Corner!
It's only a pleasure! Glad that I could help! I sincerely hope that your doctor will address your issue and take it seriously! Let us know how it goes... Good luck!
P.S. Have you seen your Gynae. about it, perhaps? |

Gynacologists are few and far between here. Mine retired and no one took his patients. So we all pretty much rely on our family doctors. Mine is pretty good. I'm sure she'll check into it more, perhaps I didn't stress how often or how sevre it was happening.
I have no complaints with my family doctor. My bigest fear is that she will retire.... _________________ Oh look ... a cookie |

Hi Sits_in_the_Corner!
That's terrible! What happens if you need an operation that can only be done by a Gynaecologist?
Keep well! |

Our medical system is in a mess here...I guess the only choices would be a very long waite for the surgery or go to another province. Alot of people are choosing to go either to another province or to the states for treatments tests and opperations. _________________ Oh look ... a cookie |

That's absolutely terrible, Sits_in_the_Corner! Are there not many medical schools in Nova Scotia? |

Yes IloveHistory
But most of our student's leave to go to the states or move out west where the money is. Very few stay here.
There are communites through out the east coast that have no doctor's what so ever. They advertise for doctor's an offer free offices and houses ...just about anything to get one to move there.
The university has set up a program that will pay part of your student loans off if you stay and work in the province for three years. But we have american hospitals coming here and offering out students jobs and transportation and in some cases homes. _________________ Oh look ... a cookie |

That's a very difficult situation... I want to be a medical doctor, myself and we have similar problems in the rural areas here in South Africa... |

Hey ILoveHIstory,
How goes life in South Africa today? Thinking of you. Wondering how you are?
Did you already have Spring break? The USA schools are in the middle of theirs.
Have the migraines been sorted out...?
Hugs,
Oluwa |

It is time for me to attempt to make personal contact with her, just to make sure that all is well! I will let you all know if I am successful.
